18th Annual Beale
Street Zydeco Fest

Memphis, TN - Feb 23 & 24, 2007
Back
to the top
The Beale Street Zydeco
Festival is two nights this year: Friday & Saturday, Feb 23-24th,
plus some events on Sunday, Feb 25th. Beale Street is Memphis’ own version of
Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Both sides of the street are lined with night
clubs and music venues. For the festival, the city blocks off traffic down
Beale and each of the clubs along Beale Street hosts a different zydeco band.
One single price ($10 Friday, $15 Saturday) gets you a wristband that will get
you into any and all of the clubs. Food and drink are also for sale at the
clubs.
"We are looking for volunteers to help decorate Beale Street Clubs for the
Zydeco Festival. If you are in Memphis on Thursday night we would love to have
you join us. We meet on Thursday night around 7pm at Club Handy. In return for
your efforts we serve BBQ sandwiches, chips, cokes and BYOB (buy your own
beer). We will also do a little Zydeco CD dancing. Each person that
participates will receive a free wristband for the festival. Let me know if you
can help, we want to make sure that we have enough BBQ's." -Debbie
MEET & GREET
Pat O'Brien's ,
upstairs in the 'Private Briars Suite'
starting around 4pm (Friday 2-23-07), until the dance lessons.
Pat O'Brien's is letting us use their 'Private Briars Suite' upstairs. This is a large dining/dancing room w/full bar area, both rooms have
a nice wood floor for dancing and balcony area w/tables.
Pat O'Brien's is supplying the beads for us to throw off
the balcony. Regular menu is available for a small group. If we have 30+
to show up we will need to order off a special menu. So if we spread the word I
just need an idea of how many might show up, to let the manager know the
numbers. And we are not obligated to order food. Pat O'Brien's is also letting us play our own CD's. Do you have any requests?

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM NANCY:
THIS YEAR STEVE BING WILL BE RUNNING THE TRIP FOR ME as I will not be in LA ; my
daughter is expecting her first child in January! Read ticket & trip info below,
carefully. For those of you who have joined us before, this trip needs no
introduction! For those of you who have not been, what we do is this: drift for
almost 2 hours through the Atchafalaya Swamp on a motorized flatboat. You can
jam or dance. This trip is lots of fun & a chance to relax with music & with
friends from around the country. There will be two boats to accommodate more
folks , & spots are first come, first served. After the boat jam, people may go
to Pat's restaurant (at the foot of the levee) in Henderson for lunch & to
continue the jam session. PLEASE INDICATE if you are a musician, & what you
play! This is very important to ensure even & adequate numbers of musicians
between the two boats. The cost is $15 per person. [NOTE RISE IN COST DUE TO
ENERGY FACTORS; next year the trip will cost even more, unfortunately. Send a
check ASAP to reserve your spot. INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS, EMAIL, & PHONE (cell
also), & musician/instrument if applicable. Mail to: Steve Bing, 5130 E. Chalet
Ct., Baton Rouge, LA 70808 / Attention: Swamp Jam. Include your e-mail
(preferred) or a stamped-self-addressed envelope for confirmation & directions
to the site. If you choose to wait until the last minute, you can call Steve to
reserve a spot if there are any left, or ~ out about cancellations. Contact
info: 225-246-2167 or cell 225-405-9707 Do not try to reserve or buy your ticket
for the boat trip through McGee's directly as this is a charter trip.
