Ceezees.com is dedicated to bring attention to, and assist in the
Preservation of, the Cajun, Zydeco and Creole Heritage and their Culture that has
survived over the past quarter-millennium in South Louisiana. As members
of the Cajun French Music Association, my wife Liz and I are actively involved
in bringing attention to the Culture of the Cajun & Creole settlers, their
descendants and their Heritage that is based on strong family values. A
traditional Cajun Fais do-do in Louisiana can still very well have in attendance
the entire family just as it has been for over two centuries. We are
continuing to increase the numbers of new Zydeco & Cajun Dancers on the 'floors'
of Louisiana by providing Dance Lessons periodically throughout the year.
We also attend and promote festivals, and fund-raising events that feature
Louisiana cultural bands, specifically Cajun, Creole, & Zydeco bands! We
are constantly on the lookout for and up & coming bands and encourage venues to
provide opportunities for new talent, especially at the larger festivals, and in
the Baton Rouge area!
This site is owned and maintained by Mike & Liz Humphries, avid Cajun and Zydeco
dancers, who are enjoying the God given gift of unrestricted Joy (la joie de
vie). We actively seek out of the way Cajun, Creole, and Zydeco Festivals
to attend and dance with like minded individuals from across the nation.
Check back with us often to see where we've been and what we thought about the
festivals we attend. Also check Cajun and Zydeco dance schedules for
events happening in and around South Louisiana which will be listed below and in
Current Events. If you're interested in acquiring dancing, walking,
riding, cowboy, or fashion boots or shoes, check out the link below to Our eBay
Auctions. Other interesting items may occasionally be listed under Other
Items for sale.
Merci, et mais Bon Dieu vous benit!
Our Goal -
is to provide Cajun and Zydeco dance schedule information for the S. LA. area
and provide dance instruction for those who want to learn how to Dance to Cajun
and Zydeco music. Eventually, we would hope to provide a dance venue that
has the dancer's interest at heart. Being dancers ourselves, we have a
keen understanding of what is important to the dancing public; smooth,
shock absorbent wooden floors, cool breezes, cold refreshment, and of course-

EAST of Port Barre and is the straightest road I've ever seen for 15.7 miles;
and it has been overlaid with in the past couple of years and is probably the
smoothest long stretch of straight road in the state! So it's easy to not notice
your speed! Please observe traffic laws along this
stretch as it well patrolled by St. Landry Parish Deputies & LA State Police.
From Baton Rouge, take
Hwy 190 west through Krotz Springs, for about 1 mile and take the next exit to

Note from Sue:
Thanks to all who have signed up for the Just Dance Zydeco Support Group. We are
going forward working with Seattle and Portland dance groups to bring more
Louisiana musicians to our dances. We are offering dances at Just Dance then off
to Seattle and Portland. We are all excited about continuing to support out of
town musicians and bands.
Over the years I have had great success with your support and the support of
Mark St. Mary and Zydeco Flames producing benefits that affect our Zydeco
Community. The Hurricane Katrina and Rita fund raisers, the adopt a zydeco
musician as well as give a free Zydeco cruise to dancers were very successful
Now a NEW challenge!
I need your help to find a way to do as our President asks, Help others......
With all of us affected by the troubled economic times it will be harder to
write that check so I am asking all of you to put your thinking caps on and
offer suggestions on how we can as a group do some thing to help others and give
something back.
You can discuss them with me at the JDB Zydeco Parties or email me or even leave
a message on my voice mail. Hard times call for us to dig deep into our brains
and come up with ways to support and help each other. We will get through this
but together we are stronger than alone.......... I know you are all caring and
sharing people and together we will come up with a great way to help others.
Hope to hear from you soon, looking forward to seeing
you at JDB.

our protectors who served for us in times of war & peace.
Note: Anytime you get an opportunity to greet a Veteran, please do so with your
heartfelt thanks. If it weren't for these guys our freedom would be in
question! Our language, our heritage, - what else could have changed.
We, Les Danseurs de la
Capitale de Baton Rouge, had the privilege of providing the entertainment at a
reunion of the Battle of the Bulge veterans at the Sheraton in the summer of
2006. What an event to be in the presence of these guys who survived one of the
worst theaters of engagement of all time, so ill-equipped for the harsh winter
that they found themselves surrounded by, yet they hung in there while still
fighting the enemy.
Welcome to Baton Rouge
Veterans! A reunion of World War II Veterans was held August '06, at based at
the downtown Sheraton. These brave men all served and fought in the Battle
of the Bulge and are all in their late 70s on up. I talked with one
gentleman in particular that owned up to having fought in 3 wars in his
lifetime, World War II, the Korean War (conflict) and in Vietnam! He was
so proud to be able to claim such a statement. What's really amazing is that he
lived through three wars. Another humble and sincere man replied with "You know
something, that's only the third time in my life that someone said that to me,"
after I thanked him personally for serving our country so bravely. Two
other gentlemen informed me that I was the first to thank them for their
service. I was shocked. These guys served in a devastating war and against tremendous
odds, and the horrific elements with very little provisions in the bitter cold
to not hear a sincere thanks from every American they ever come into contact
with is beyond my comprehension! So I want to encourage the three or four people
that will read this to reach out and seek out a veteran and thank them for their
service to their and our country. Please.
We all want to say THANK YOU for your service to our country and
especially for your protection of the freedoms we often may take for granted. A
very simple THANKS and a firm handshake can mean the world to some of these
guys. So let me repeat myself in encouraging anyone who has the opportunity to
cross paths with a WWII vet, to give them a good ole Southern thanks!!!
Our warmest and deepest sympathies go out to
the family of Dennis Boudreaux - famed Fiddler of the Savoir Faire Cajun Band
who passed away early New Year's Morning following his performance at the Baton Rouge CFMA New Year's
party. He died of a massive heart attack just after packing up all the
gear. Dennis will be surely be missed! Please remember his children, survivors and loved ones
in your prayers.
The funeral
arrangements are as follows:
Sunday, January 4
Rabenhorst East Funeral Home on Florida Blvd
Visitation was from 11:00 - 3:00
Memorial Service was following Visitation at 3:00

It's All About the Dance
(a note from the Director:)
AYEEE !
Zydeco Dance is on the move as new ones are introduced to this
high energy dance. I am sure that the first dancers of Zydeco would be amazed at
how their same 4 count two-step has advanced. I recently went to a trail ride
dance in Lawtell , La. in the heart of Zydeco land. I was amazed at the Zydeco
style of the twenty something age group down there. I could clearly see that
there is no one way to Zydeco. The count is the same but flair and personal
style (as with most dances) makes this dance in my humble opinion one of the
best dances around. It has been said that when you dance Zydeco all problems go
away. Some learn Zydeco by the rhythm and some learn by the count. It really
doesn't matter how you learn it. It only matters that your do! By popular demand
the Gulf Coast Zydeco Music and Crawfish Festival will present an array of dance
instructors at out festivals for your learning experience and enjoyment. As we
say “It's All about the Dance” and it's all
about fun!
I'll see you on the dance floor!

Cajun Dance Instruction Presented by Mike
and Liz Humphries
Mike
and Liz Humphries live near Baton Rouge, Louisiana . After meeting at a
CFMA sponsored Cajun dance, they "jumped the broom" in the presence of a few
hundred dear friends at a Cajun fais do-do (pronounced fay-doe-doe) and
began their life together sharing their common love of Cajun and Zydeco
dance and “le joie de vie” (the joy of life) it brings. Their energetic and
animated dance style has earned them recognition in several Cajun and Zydeco
venues throughout Louisiana , as well as other areas of the country. Both
having educational backgrounds, these two bring their instructional
expertise to the dance floor when presenting the basics in Cajun or Zydeco.
Teaching by the motto “if you can walk, you can waltz” this dynamic couple
will have you up dancing before you know it!!

almost 2 hours through the Atchafalaya Swamp on a motorized flatboat. You can
jam or dance. This trip is lots of fun & a chance to relax with music & with
friends from around the country. There will be two boats to accommodate more
folks , & spots are first come, first served. After the boat jam, people may go
to Pat's restaurant (at the foot of the levee) in Henderson for lunch & to
continue the jam session. PLEASE INDICATE if you are a musician, & what you
play! This is very important to ensure even & adequate numbers of musicians
between the two boats. The cost is $15 per person. [NOTE RISE IN COST DUE TO
ENERGY FACTORS; next year the trip will cost even more, unfortunately. Send a
check ASAP to reserve your spot. INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS, EMAIL, & PHONE (cell

North Baton Rouge Neighborhoods Reunion
Thursday July 5th 6pm
$free
If you were raised in North Baton Rouge, & attended Istrouma, Glen Oaks, or
Redemptorist in the 40s, 50s, or 60s, or knew someone that did, then you are
invited!
Taken from a recent Smile Anders column: Eleven years ago
Jim Carruth, who grew up in north Baton Rouge and is now in Abbeville, thought
it might be fun to have a “North Baton Rouge Neighborhoods Reunion” for folks
who lived there in the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s and ’60s.
He got
out the word, found a hall — and several hundred people showed up. It’s
been growing ever since, maybe because there’s no charge and no program — you
just hang out with folks you knew from the past.
This
year the event is at 6 pm July 5 at the Sheraton Atrium downtown.
Haskell
Douglas, one of the organizers, says you’re asked to bring one or two
non-perishable items for the Food Bank.
Call
Jim at (337) 893-0810, Wayne Price at (225) 317-4561 or Haskell at (225)
